If you thought that Nintendo consoles and gadgets were so 2007 then let me enlighten you...
...because the new Nintendo Switch is everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more. Released on the 3rd of March 2017 it was something me and my friends had been anticipating since the end of 2016 and were overjoyed at it finally coming out. As avid gamers, we generally get excited about anything new and lose interest fairly quickly after that. I mean, remember that whole Pokémon Go thing? In fact, that might still be going… I heard a little kid harping on about it the other day… But anyway, you see our point. It takes a lot to grab our interest and hold it there. So, whilst we were extremely excited to try out this latest release from Nintendo we were also very apprehensive and anxious. So, if you want our totally unbiased, realistic and let’s face it… rather witty review, read on!
If you’re present on social media, then there’s no doubt you’ve already seen Pewdiepie’s latest video “Dear Nintendo” where he shows off this latest piece of tech in a very comical way. But what do we think? Firstly, we think that Marzia is totally freaking adorable and should be protected at all costs. We think that we seriously miss Ainsley Harriot’s presence in Pewds videos (we never fully understood it either, but we’d grown rather accustomed to it) and that should be rectified A.S.A.P. Oh… you mean you wanted to know what we thought of the Nintendo Switch? Right! That’s below silly.
What is the Nintendo Switch?
Okay, seriously if you need to ask us that have you been living under a rock or what? Dubbed the appliance that’s going to save the Nintendo company, the Nintendo switch is a nifty piece of tech that transforms from a handheld console to a home console to a wireless system much like the original Nintendo Wii. Being able to use the switch anywhere at any time and connect it back at home like any other gaming console is a seriously smart and novice idea that we think is going to make them millions. Like the Nintendo Wii craze the Nintendo switch allows you involve your physical body in any game you place which is great for team matches and one on one face-offs.
Now picture you’re having a picnic with your family and your totally, immeasurably bored as hell. Your favourite cousins just showed up and you know this is when the party is going to get going. Perfect. Or is it? When you realise they haven’t bought their Nintendo and you’re refraining from rolling your eyes because you just know that means they’re going to be hogging yours. The worst part is that if you’d upgraded to the Nintendo switch you’d have never been faced with this problem. Why? Because the handheld console transforms into two joy-cons and a large, easy to see gameplay screen. It’s literally perfect, right?! We divulge below.
Pros of the Nintendo Switch
· In and Out
The Nintendo Switch gives all users the capability to play either indoors or outdoors. Which we must say, is a huge plus to us!
· Top Quality
The Nintendo Switch console promotes 1080p viewing in full HD, which we have got to say is very impressive for just a little piece of equipment.
· Difference
In comparison to its predecessor the Wii U, it’s obvious that this piece of tech has come along leaps and bounds. The main noticeable difference is the quality in the visual department. Well done Nintendo!
Cons of the Nintendo Switch
· Cost
If you’re gaming on a budget, then it’s time for us to try to let you down gently. The Nintendo Switch is going to cost you anywhere upwards of £280. And that’s just for the most basic package!
· Storage
This is probably one of our main issues with the switch device. It only comes with 32GBs worth of storage. Right?! We think that’s stingy too! So, if you want additional storage (obviously), you’re going to be forking it out of your pocket.
· Cost… again!
We don’t think we’re that poor. But when Nintendo wants to start charging us an extra £65 for a pro controller, which is what everyone uses… we’re going to get a bit grumpy.
Our Rating
Overall we’re going to have to give this bit of tech a solid 3/5 stars. Whilst we do like the Nintendo Switch, it does kind of feel like they’re strapped for cash and needed to change up an old product to generate some more income. The additional costs involved with the Nintendo Switch if you want to use it to its full potential can be vast. That’s right Nintendo, we see right through you. Bring back Nintendogs, we say.
