It’s true! Next month marks exactly 50 years since The Beatles released their eighth full album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on vinyl. But it’s timeless sound will echo throughout the decades to come, that’s for sure.
The Beatles came up with the concept for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band because they wanted to create something new, something vibrant and something utterly diverse in their field. And, they did. Originally, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ as well as ‘Penny Lane’ were both rumoured to be featured on this Record. But way back in 1967 the band decided they had other ideas and so released these songs as separate singles in the February before their June LP release.
The NME had this to say, 'Trust the Beatles to come up with something different! Their latest LP, 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' is a sort of concert. It starts with that number and ends with it, except for a finale piece called 'A Day In The Life'.' - NME May 20, 1967.
