With so many changes in UK's mainstream styles and what's big in the charts today, it was only a matter of time for some underground artists to hit the spotlight. With famous acts like Stormzy, Skepta and Chip all rising in popularity, we thought that now is the best opportunity to showcase our personal favourites.
We've no doubt those featured in our 'Ones To Watch' segments will soon be household names. So, listen up. Grime, rap, hip-hop or underground? Let us redefine all of these with one listen to the next best thing music has seen A.K.A SAVAGE
In an exclusive interview with the team @LELLEONvinyl we got to know a little more about the man behind the music and delve a little into his past and future goals. And at just 17 years old, this East London rapper hasn't done too badly for himself at all.
L: What inspired you to create music?
S: When I got kicked out of school in Year. 10 I went to a behaviour centre where they had a studio. So, I just went in as a joke and after I started to enjoy it. I kept going and from there I just thought 'Why not?'. I realised I could do this as it was something I really enjoyed.
L: We think Classy is your best piece of work. Where did your ideas come from?
S: Classy which featured Two4Kay is my personal favourite. It was one of them where I heard the beat and it was wavy. So, I quickly thought of a hook and hollered Two4Kay as I knew he would sound sick on it. I sent him it and he liked it so boom, we dropped it and it blowed! Which is exactly what we wanted.
L: Do you have any goals to achieve before the end of 2017?
S: Of course! If you don't have goals you're useless in life. You have to have goals. Obviously I have got a couple of personal ones and music ones as well. Right now my goal is to slowly just make my way up and do a lot of shows etc.
If it's going to be as lit as this, we want tickets!
L: Do you think the music scene has changed much?
S: Of course. Everything is changing a lot, it's because everyone has more of a chance. There are a lot of studios etc. so people are just hitting the booth and dropping things slowly, they're growing up in the industry.
L: Who would your dream collar be with?
S: I would really like to work with a couple names but it's all low till it's official.
L: How is social media helping/hindering your career?
S: It's really been mad because everyone's starting to blow as there's links now. Channels such as Link Up TV,
SBTV etc that's helping rappers to really get out there.
SAVAGE stresses that he's unlike other artists and we can see that in his demeanour, lyrics and passion. This guy's going to go far. We can't wait to see what the future holds but we know it's going to be one hell of a journey. SAVAGE dropped a new hit last night, so make sure you check out the link below:
Only good things to come.
